Conventional auto electrical repairs

Electrical faults need evidence.

Starting, charging, wiring and intermittent electrical concerns are investigated alongside the vehicle’s symptoms and history. Garry Cracknell is our Master Technician and auto electrician.

01

Conventional vehicle electrical systems.

We combine scan information with targeted circuit and component checks. A stored fault code is a starting point, not proof that the named component needs replacing.

  • Starting and charging concerns
  • Battery-related electrical issues and reported drain concerns
  • Wiring, connections, lighting and circuit faults
  • Intermittent operation and dashboard warnings
  • Electrical faults associated with conventional mechanical systems

Tools and experience working together.

The workshop uses Bosch KTS, three Autel platforms and Snap-on diagnostic equipment, alongside VAG-COM and other manufacturer-specific tools. The appropriate platform depends on the vehicle and the concern.

The electrical repair page explains the work we can undertake; our separate diagnostics guide explains the investigation process, initial booking and how additional tests are agreed.

03

Help us reproduce an intermittent fault.

Note the conditions when the fault occurs: wet weather, a cold start, a long journey, a particular accessory or a period parked up. Photographs of a message and a clear symptom history can be useful.

A fault that is not present during the visit may require further investigation. We explain what has been tested, what the evidence shows and what remains unconfirmed rather than claiming every intermittent fault can be found immediately.

04

Important limits before booking.

We do not undertake EV electrical, EV diagnostic, high-voltage or electric-drive work. Any limited conventional hybrid engine or mechanical job must be agreed in advance and excludes high-voltage and electric-drive systems.

ADAS calibration, key cutting, key programming, lost-key work and immobiliser programming are not offered. Post-2018 JLR coding/programming is also outside our scope.

05

Investigation first; repair by agreement.

Send the registration, symptoms, warning messages and details of any aftermarket equipment or previous repair attempts. The initial diagnostic allowance and charge are agreed when booking. Further time and repairs require discussion.

A battery replacement and a charging-system fault are not the same job. We can explain whether a battery assessment or a wider electrical investigation is the better starting point.
