Cooling systems & overheating
Find the leak. Understand the cause.
Coolant loss, an unusual temperature reading or a change in heater performance needs a vehicle-specific investigation—not a succession of guessed parts.

The details that help fault-finding.
Tell us whether the concern happens in traffic, at road speed, with the heater running or after the vehicle has been parked. Mention any recent coolant top-ups, puddles, warning messages or repairs.
Fluid seen beneath a car is not always from the component directly above it. We investigate the source and explain the findings before recommending replacement parts.

The system layout varies by engine. Once the fault is established, we can discuss the affected components and related repair requirements.
- Radiators, hoses, joints and coolant leaks
- Water pumps and thermostat concerns
- Expansion tanks and related connections
- Cooling-fan operation and associated conventional electrical faults
- Heater-performance concerns linked to the engine cooling system
Overheating is a symptom.
A high temperature reading does not identify one particular cause. The investigation may involve cooling-system condition, circulation, fan operation, recorded data or additional engine checks.
A leak repair alone is not a guarantee that there is no further engine damage. Where component removal or additional testing is needed to understand the problem fully, the scope and costs are discussed.
Back to topics ↑Agree the repair and related work.
We explain the proposed parts and labour, plus any associated fluid replacement or access requirements. On some engines, water-pump work overlaps with timing-belt access; whether this is relevant depends on the exact engine and maintenance history.
An air-conditioning refrigerant service is a separate job from engine-cooling work. Describe the symptom if you are unsure which system is involved.
Before bringing the vehicle.
Share the registration, symptoms, warning messages and recent work with reception. Explain if the vehicle has overheated or is losing fluid so the team can discuss the appropriate arrival arrangements.
Recovery can be arranged through an external provider where required, subject to availability and cost. Vulcan Motors does not operate its own recovery service.
