Quite simply there are three possible outcomes – a pass or a fail, or a pass with advisories.

If you pass, we’ll give you a VT20 pass certificate. You don’t have to come back for another MOT test for a year. If you fail, we’ll hand you a VT30 failure certificate.

Whichever result you get, you’ll also receive an itemised breakdown of your MOT, showing areas where you passed, areas where there is cause for concern, and, in the case of a failure, what stopped your car from getting a pass.

MOT Pass / Fail

If your car fails its MOT, Legally, your car must be repaired before you can get your MOT pass. which in the UK is a legal requirement to drive a vehicle on the UK road network (Unless the vehicle is deemed exempt, for example a classic or vintage car over a certain age (40 years old or more from its manufacture date). Without it, you won’t be able to renew your road fund license (Previously known as road or vehicle tax).

Vulcan Motors Ltd will let you know what needs to be done and present you with a quote. If you decide to use us to carry out the repairs, we will do so in a timely manner and let you know when your vehicle is ready to collect, together with its MOT pass.

If your vehicle fails its emission tests, you may need to replace the exhaust system in its entirety. If you don’t pass your MOT but want to take away the car, you can do so and get an MOT re-test for free if you come back the within 10 working days of the failed MOT date and the reason your car failed its MOT was due to problems with one or more of the following:
